Hi guys. Just wondered how badly things would go if i added an oscar and a black ghost knife fish to my two angels and big common pleco.
Tank is 4'x1.5'x1.5'.
Also i have 4 3" clown loaches (that could be rehomed).
So how daft would this mix be?

I'd say daft in the extreme! Oscars are far too aggressive and generally too rough and messy to be kept with angels. I don't know much about bgk, but I think the angels might be too boisterous for it.

Not big enough for the Oscar, BGK, Common Plec and Clown Loach - if those are the fish you like its time for an upgrade :D 6x2x2 and thats the time to be thinking of fish that get as big as those.

BGKs are quite timid so be careful when mixing them with other fish, the Oscar is a no no but the Angels could work in the right sized tank.

tank is too small for BGK. The rest agree with fluttermoth on.

All sounds quite fair. The common pleco will go shortly (as did the last) and be replaced with another. Clowns grow very slow so plent of time there although personally wouldnt keep 4 adults in 6x2x2 with other lol.
Willis thankyou in referance to their temperament. This is always my first place for reaserch for this exact reason and fluttermouth...thanks for your peice.
is my tank really to small for a BGK? Even if i didnt replace the plec? Or maybe for a couple of bn's?

Mate, I hope you don't think I'm being harsh, but to keep on buying common plecs and replacing them isn't very responsible; why don't you just get a plec that will be happy to live it's whole life in a tank of your size? There are plenty to choose from.

BGK should grow to 20", if well looked after, so one wouldn't even be able to turn around in your tank.

No its a fair point and i see what you mean but atleast they go to a good home and arnt abused. I read they rarly reach 12 inch in aquariums. Is this just due to small housing then?

Are we talking about the BGK or the plec?!

BGK are not very easy fish to keep, and most of them die from poor water, stunting, starvation or infections caused by stress.

Actually, it's the same with common plecs; my ex had one that was 22".

They rarely reach 12 inches because everyone kills them from poor housing. They grow somewhat slow, and they live a very long time. They're quite fragile and picky eaters, and get gigantic. Just because other people buy them and house them in improper conditions doesn't mean you should take their lead.

Oh right. Cheers for setting me straight on that. Guess ill stick with my angels then.
Just wanted somthing/s nice and "big" to go with them. Any ideas?

Sorry i seam to have really upset/wound you up. 12" was in referance to the BGK and only quoted from wikipedeia. I really dont know much about these hence the asking...

No mate, I'm not upset :)

Why don't you look into another sort of plec? Something like a gold nugget or green phantom? You'd have to check up on sizes, but that would be a stunning, bigger addition to your tank :good:

Maybe i will look at green phantom. Was gonna buy a blue but at £75 just to much lol

Most big cichlids are going to be a bit too rambunctious and aggressive for angelfish, unfortunately. The larger, less aggressive ones to my knowledge are firemouths and keyholes, but they grow no larger than the angelfish. severums might work, but I don't know if even they might show a bit of aggression to the angels, and I would need a second opinion on if your tank is big enough for one.

You could get some bigger catfish, Say a couple striped or spotted raphael catfish, but you may not see them out and about a whole lot.

Real shame to hear that as the deal with the missus was i can have the 2 tanks if she can have 2 angels and my other tank is my malawi lol.
Thankyou for the positive reply though and good suggestion with the firemouths.
