I was given 2 angles for my 55gal. The last 5 days they have been great. Eating well, love tubaflex worms! Tonight I did my water changes, and feeding. About a hour later the two are fighting. Up to this point they have been best buddies. One never goes any where with out the other. The ones body is the size of a silver dallor and the others is a half dallor. Right now they are glaring at each other from between some plants. I have never had Angels before. Any ideas?

BTW Tank list is in profile, click name.

Angels are new world cichlids, & have the aggression associated with them. They could be figuring out territory, as long as they are in that size tank with plenty of plants, they shouldn't get too out of hand. There may be some torn fins now & then, these heal fine with water changes. This would be the situation if they spar then go to different areas of the tank.

If they battle then seem to get along, swimming together as before it is pairing behavior. Angels test each other before pairing up & spawning, and often afterwards. If you don't plan on raising the spawn just leave it. I'm sure those loachs will make a quick meal out of the eggs.

ya they should be fine in a tank that big if you wanted and if you had room you could get 4 more angels of the same type and size and they will be fine my gradpa had 6 angels in a 30 gallon and they were fine not much aggression either

Yup I thought so. Thank you, and yes they will make great loach food!

 I had done a water change early today and had not see anything out of place in the tank. All night the angels have been looking at the up take pipe for the HOB filter, they killed one of the Black Skirt Tetras and they keep going after the stipid fish that will not stay away from them. My new rams are right there in the strike zone too. I got trired of watching this and went over to see whats up. I have eggs all over the upper part of the tube. This is a planted tank. I thought they layed on the leaves. Any way how long till they hatch so the others can eat them and we can get over this. How often is this going to happen? Is it the live food and water changes that spark this?

Lol, angels love to spawn on intake filters. I've put pieces of pvc pipe on eithr side of filter intakes to make the spawn removable. If you are tired of the aggression, shut off the filter, remove the intake tube, & rinse the spawn off in the sink.

The loaches will probably eat the eggs in a day or 2. Angels will spawn every 7 to 14 days. Water changes & a healthy diet will trigger spawning.

Great! :grr: So what you are saying is as long as I take care of my tank I get to have psyco fish every week. Well I will rehome the Black skirts in the morning. Will Boesemani Rainbows be a better schooling fish for this tank? (I have been wanting them anyway  ) If not I really want some great color in here. I have black sand and dark plants with a black back.Any ideas?

What temperature is the tank? Sometimes keeping the temperature a little lower will slow down their spawning. Otherwise pulling the spawn lessens the aggression. After a few spawns you will see the pairs territory, where they most often spawn. Arrange some plants or other decorations to break the line of sight from their favorite spot. Out of sight, out of mind, if they can't see the other fish they will feel less threatened.

Boesmanis are less angel looking than black skirts, if a spawning pair thinks another fish looks like an angel, it will be treated as a threat. That may be a good option.

78f LOL now I just need to take another 4 hour trip down to Sac. spend 3 hours will my nose to the glass trying to remember I can not over stock......to much, and a 4 hour ride home worring about how the fish are doing! :S
