I have acquired an Angel for my 260 litre community tank from a friend who was unable to care for it anymore. I want to provide him with some friends, however, I believe he is a Male because of the forehead, picture is probably not the best to tell.. When i buy from LFS will I be able to tell so easily? He is around 6 inches in height. I've also done a bit of looking and cannot pin down what specific breed he is, i suspect some sort of cross breed.. I have a mostly peaceful setup comprising gouramis, zebra Danios, 2 rescued YoYo's (going to buy more) and a common pleco.

The colour morph is koi. I will not try to sex it for you, but I will recommend that you get equally large fish to go with it (I found angels to be a schooling species) and rearrange the tank before adding the new fish in (after you get them home).

Gold marble, heterozygous, most probably M/Gm as genetics go, but it may be M/g, only sure way to tell is to cross it with a fish of known genetics. As far as sex, I've seen females with the hump on the head, while it is an indicator of sex in many ciclids it's not a definite with angels.

Adding friends may be tricky, get a group of similar size, remove the angel you have, and rearrange the tank. Add in the new angels, let them settle in, then add the one you have. Keep a divider handy if you don't have a spare tank.

Thanks a lot to both of you for your prompt replies. I shall keep a look out for some tank mates of similar size and let the Local shops nearby know what I am after, he seems such a loner in the tank at the moment, I feel sorry for the poor guy particularly when he's got another 6-8 years left in him, if not more.
