I added 2 platinum angels to my tank 2 weeks ago (babies), and they have been doing really well.

However, since yesterday the larger of the 2 Angels has not been his self and has been sitting at the top of the tank gulping for air right on the water surface.

Am I right in thinking this is likely to be due to lack of oxygen?

He has no signs of disease, and the other fish and angel seem absolutely fine.

I spoke to the LFS and they suggested upping the angle of the output filters which has created more of a ripple on the surface, and I have also added an air stone to the other end of the tank.

He doesn't seem any better yet but its only been a couple of hours.

Any idea if this could be something else that requires treating differently, or will it take a while for him recover anyway.

The water stats are perfect, tank has a few plants, the filter sponge etc is not clogged, no co2 being added, can't think of anything else that might help..

The tank is still new, fully cycled, but has only had fish in it for 2 weeks (2 angels, 6 pentazona barbs, 10 shrimp) - 180 litres.

Thanks,

Paul.

Is the fish bloated, pale or dark in colour.
Check the gills over to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
How is he now you added the airstone.

He doesn't seem any better this morning unfortunately.

He doesn't seem pale or bloated or inflamed etc, visually he looks absolutely fine.

The only strange thing is he keeps on having a very long string of see through poo hanging from him, previously the poo has been red but i guess this may because he is not eating?

I have shrimp in the tank so have heard about dipping fish into a a seperate jug which is treated to get rid of parasites etc which may be in his gills making it hard to breath, has anyone heard of this????

Thanks.

The red poo have you been feeding blood worms as it pointing to internal parasites.
Whats your location.

thanks for the reply, location is surrey, both angels have had red poo since day one, but the larger one who seems ill now is doing see through poos, which i assumed was because he wasn't eating.

No blood worms, just flake.

Internal parasites camallanous worms you will need this med.
Back it up with anti internal bacteria med by interpet, as internal worms do alot of damage to the insides of the fish.
