oh, and are they naturally predatory? ;)

I am going to be getting 3 angelfish for my 45 gallon and that is the perfect size for them. Make sure the tank is tall because the get very tall with fins. You should be able to get 4 in a 50 gallon. Don't know how big they get. Heard if you feed them bloodworms when you get them small they grow healthy and fast.

1. They get about 6 inches long
2. About 10 inches tall
3. About a year
4. Two will be good, though you may see the larger one pick on the smaller one.

How tall is the tank?

20 inches tall :)

Should be fine, btw make sure your smaller angel is eatting plenty and is getting protien, will help him catch up size wise with the other angel.

they are the best of buddies now :D

they share the flakes

maybe a pairing might follow

I'm getting 4 angels in awhile for my 55g tank and I'll be putting my pleco and maybe a few of the tetras from my long 20g.

I remember in my planning days for the 70 gallon, I ask about angelfish stocking. There was a member on this forum named Tolak that is an angelfish guru! You should Pm him for some information. I think he is an angelfish breeder.

Standard fin angels will get 8 to 10 inches tall, 6 to 8 inches long. Veils tend to have a smaller body, but much more fin, they will get 12 to 14 inches tall, 8 to 10 inches long.

Their growth tends to slow down as they get older, they get to their maximum size from 12 to 18 months, but will continue to fill out, getting thicker for another year.

50 gallons is fine for 2 angels, you could fit 4 or 5. 2 would work out nice as a centerpiece, only time will tell if the 2 are compatable long term. Even breeding pairs can get aggressive with each other, sometimes to the point of injury or death of the partner.

They are new world cichlids, and do have the preditory nature & aggressiveness associated with cichlids, though usually not as much as some of the others. They are classified as more of a semi-aggressive, and can usually be kept with other more peaceful fish in a larger community tank. Many livebearers are a good choice for tankmates, as long as they are large enough not to fit in the angel's mouth. Angels can open their mouth twice as large as you think they can, you won't have to worry about being overrun with fry from the livebearers.
