What kind of tank size to angels need? Are they ok for reef tanks? I haven't started my tank yet, but I am trying to plan what I would like to get. I particularly like the flame angel. Any info would be appreciated. Also, I would love to see pictures of angels if anyone would like to post them!

Thanks! :fun:

OK well there are a few different catagories of angels.

Pygmy, Dwarf And Standard.

Pygmy's and Dwarfs are generally considered safe with reefs. Stadard Angels are usually a "No" with reefs (unless you are lucky ;) )

Here are a few names of the Pygmy's and Dwarf Angels that you may or may not have heard of.

Coral Beauty
Cherrub
Flame
Vunesta
Potters
BI Colour
Lemonpeel
Wattanabae

Here are a few piccys of Angles i have kept.

Lemonpeel Angel (Not advisable with reefs)

Wattanabae Angel (Female... very reef safe and tollerant of other angels)

Vunesta or Purple Mask Angel

Male and female Wattanabaes (Probably the most expensive dwarf angels i have ever purchased :-( )

Hope this helps

I just used the IMG button and linked them to websites that have my piccys posted

Dont worry, I have only just realised there is an "attach" icon in the chit chat forum

Thanks!
Those are great pics and the info is very helpful. I think angel fish are so beautiful

Do they do well with other kinds of fish, like clown fish or tangs? (Realizing that not all tangs are good reef fish and they need big tanks)

Thanks everyone!

Navarre, congrats!

They are great community fish and should get along well with most others. My Emperor tang had "issues" with my Asfur Angel but then again the shape and colour are very similar. They now get along really well and spend most of the time swimming together.

Tangs are reef safe but as you pointout, they need larger tanks.

Nav,
I am returning my Blue Tang to my LFS. (it's in a 55 and going bonkers) I have a Majestic Angel. Can I put a dwarf angle in there too? And what type do you suggest?? A peaceful community is what I'm looking for.
Thanks :D Kim

Most of them lived together with no problems. Some of the fish i have pictured were kept n an older setup, the Flame and Lemonpeel for example. All the rest lived hapily together, mind you they had plenty of rockwork and the tank was very large so they coped pretty well.

Generally the dwarfs will be ok with other dwarfs but not ok with theri own species. IMO the vunestas are the best but the lemonpeels are nice too.

My Vunesta (Purple Mask Angel) was an absolute Gem! Losing him (losing any of them actually) was tragic and preventable i persoally beleive. I can thouroughly recomend the Vunesta but they are hard to find so its a case of keeping your eyes open and as soon as one appearrs then grab it!

As for the lemopeel, i have had bad experiences with them as well as a few of my friends how have kept them also. THey seem to be the mmost prone ot nipping at polyps from whati have discovered.
