My son had 2 Angel fish until last night :-(
Are they o.k on their own or should he get the remaining one a friend. He had them about 3 weeks??

should have said 1 died.

What is the tank setup? How large is the tank (dimensions) and what other fish are in the tank? How long has the tank been set up?

it will be ok on its own, but is there any other fish in the tank? because if not it will be very bored and probley become semi-aggressive if its left with just himself.

i would put another one in.

the tank size is way too small. angel fish can grow (i think) 6 inches tall. if they don't have enough room they will get damaged and become quite aggressive.

Dimensions Length 40cm x width 20cm x height 40cm tank, with hood fitted 46.5cm. Contains 30 litres of water. These are the dimensions so its actually only 30 litres, Maidenhead aquatics sold us the fish after asking which tank we had.

This does not show Maidenhead aquatics in a very good light. I thought they'd be more careful of their reputation.

That is far too small, that is 8 gallons of water. They can grow to 6+ inches so if it became fully grown in that tank (which it wouldn't) it wouldn't be able to turn around in those dimensions.

I would rehome the Angel or try to return 'em. Sadly this is what alot of new fishkeepers run into when they stock their tanks. The majority of places that sell fish are out to make a buck, not to find good homes for them.

Your best bet with stocking as a beginner is always to get some ideas then post them here for more experienced members to advise on. Then you are relying on 100s of years of combined fishkeeping experience and not some spotty 16 year old on his minimum wage weekend job who just wants to improve his sales figures.

:good:

my tank is 81 litres, would the angel be better in there, I currently have 2 x platys, 2 x endlers and a siamese fighter?

I'm sorry but as others have mentioned, the tank is far far too small. Not just by a little bit. You have a choice: get a larger tank (possibly not the best option at this stage) or take the angel fish back (or find a new suitable home for it).

Sorry, but there's no third option

Sorry I didn't see your last post as it was posted more or less the same time and crossed over.
Your tank should be fine as long as it's a tall tank with at least 18" of water depth.
But your endlers will probably end up being snacks and the betta (if male) might stress and fight with the Angel.
I don't have an awful lot of Angelfish experience (though I currently have 5 in a 100 gallon tank - of which 4 are paired up). And personally, I wouldn't keep a pair even in your sized tank. If they pair up and decide to breed, they will have a reign of terror in such a relatively small territory.
Even if they don't pair, at best they will tolerate each other - but they could also go the other way, hate each other and beat each other up.

My thoughts anyway :)
