Hey all,

Some of you may know i have bought a tank from e-bay a couple of days ago with fish included so i have been trying to get to know these fish by watching them more than i usually would if i had been out and picked the fish myself.

I have noticed my Angel fish is fin nipping just one other fish and that fish alone, i have also read in the past Angel fish can be quite bad for fin nipping and someone i know found out through there own experience.

Well to explain more my Angel seems to only do it just after feeding and he only does it to my Honey Gourami who hangs around the mid and top of my tank it seems that it happens more when the Gourami goes near him but i did see him purposefully swim up to nip once, he could be just protecting his area of the tank...

He looks quite young he is about 2inch across and tall...

What i really wanted to know is could he get any worse than this or could he just be the peaceful guy he normally is before feeding?

Your angel will just be being territorial and simply 'chasing' the gourami rather than actually attacking him. Ive never kept an angel on its own before but mine chase eachother to establish the pecking order but they dont actually damage eachother.

Has the angel actually cased any damage to the gourami?

How big is the tank?

The tank is a 30gal (US) and is overstocked according to people on here, like i say though i didn't buy any of the fish so i'm going to have to get a tank cycled and give them some more room...

Also he hasn't caused any damage to the gourami...

Ive always kept angels in groups but thats more because I like them so much, I dont know how well they do on their own.

What other fish do you have and what had you planned to get for the bigger tank?

In the tank i bought it contains -

1x Angel Fish (2 inch)
1x Honey Gourami (2 inch)
2x Parrot Fish (3 inch)
1x Common Plec (6 inch)
1x Plec (think it's common but not sure) (1 1/2 inch)
2x Clown Loaches (2 inch & 1 1/2 inch)
3x Unidentified (think they are gouramis of some sort) (2 are about 2inch and one is slightly smaller)

How overstocked would you say this tank is? I'm thinking of getting a larger tank to put upstairs and leave some fish in this tank. Not too sure what to put in the bigger tank yet.

It is very overstocked.....your common plecs could raech 2 foot each, clowns will get to 12" so they are the main problem.

Although Ive never kept parrot fish I think they get quite aggressive when they get bigger and they do get to a good size, someone else might be able to correct me about the parrot fish though.

How big is the new tank?

I don't have exact measurements yet as i haven't got it this minute, i know it's 48" across the front.

Id take your common plecs back to the LFS and try getting a couple of bristlenose if I were you ,you will need to pay more but they wont get more than 8"
