Hi

Got home and went to feed the fish and noticed that one of our Angels tails looked a bit haggered.... I'm sure it was fine the other day.
I have attached a piccie off him but it's not very clear.
It looks like a whole chunk is missing.

I have Platies and 3 polkadot loaches...none of which are normally nippers!

Could this be fin rot??? other than the tail he looks pretty healthy as do all the other fish. He is keeping himself to himself and only come out for shirt periods, where he is normally playing with the other Angel.

Please tell me what you think

Can you please post a little more info?

Can you please post the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH readings?
What is the size of your tank, do you add any chemicals?

Also, this is off topic, but the pix is about 4 x's the size of my screen and has such a high resolution that it is taking days to load even over high speed.

In a PM from AngelMax
Thanks for replying a post on my Q. Sorry about the picture...I cannot edit it off!!!!!!!!! sad.gif

Anyway... it is a 120L (uk) planted tank. The water stats are .....
0 Ammoninia/ 0 Nitrite/ 10 Nitrate/ 7.8 PH

No chemicals other than de-chlorinator & charcoal filter.

Appreciate your help...thanks

I hope you don't mind that I posted this, just want to make sure anyone who wants to jump in can have all the info they need!

Out of curiosity, how many angels do you have in the tank? If you have multiple, have two began to act like they are forming a pair? If so, that would cause the angels to become very agressive to each other.

I only have the two....never seen any probs between them.

The polkadot loaches do go mad sometimes and do chase the other fish including the Angels....could they be the culprits????

The loaches might be a possible culperate. The other angel might also be the culperate. For the time being, I would remove the fish, and treat with salt and melafix (kinda a liquid bandaid and neosporin combo).

Attitude, Aggression and Tank Mates
Many other members of the botia family make great tank mates. Avoid any of the tiger loaches. These fish have a bit of attitude and spunk, and are compatible with most community tanks. They are excellent for snail and fry control. They will hunt down any fish that is under 3/4 of an inch long, so take care with any smaller fish you wish to keep alive. With snails, I have seen them show no interest in larger ramshorn snails, but placing them with any large snail is taking a risk.
I have no problems with them harming my otos, khulis, pencilfish, tetras, plecos, or eel. Larger skittish fish will not enjoy these guys during dinner as they are very thorough in their hunt for food, which includes checking out the bodies of larger, slower tankmates.
During the day, these loaches spend much time lounging around, laying on tank decor and equipment, but every now and then, they get annoyed at someone and you will see them spiraling around in a battle dance. The following are links to the battle between a striata and the kubotai.

Many loach keepers have seen these battles (which can continue for over 15 minutes) between the kubotai. I have not seen this, and it may be linked to the number of fish I have kept, or that they do it when I'm not around. Likely the later.

Despite the occasional tifs for dominance between members of the schoal, these fish take great comfort from having other members of their own kind around. A smaller group will take longer to acclimate, than a larger one.

Nope, still not working. I'm betting the file is just too large. The GIMP is a good free photo editing software, and is made for almost every operating system out there.

If it is fin rot or just some agression, I would start with melafix and salt, and keeping the water pristinely clean. If it seems to get worse, you may need to add antibiotics.

youv'e been a complete angel....thanks for your patience. I will try the melafix and see what happens.
LOL it was a pants photo anyway!!!!!!!!!
Again...thanks
