I bought 2 new angelfish on friday to add to my tank. Within 3 days they were both dead and today one of my original angels was dead. Could the new ones of had a disease which was then passed on to my original one. I have checked my water stats everything is ok Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0. Im really hoping i dont loose my remaining 4 angels. I will be mentioning it to my lfs where i got them from. Any help welcome

sometimes its dodgy fish from the LFS alwayts best quarantining them if you can. Also did you take your time to aclimitize the fish as any sudden change in temperature / ph could be fatal as ive found out in the past. One LFS near me i've had about 50% of the fish slast over a week

UPDATE - Today i have lost another angel fish no marks or any thing i can see just sudden death. I have been back to where i got the new 2 from and told them, to my surprise the tank they came out of is now undergoing treatment , i asked them what was wrong and the guy said he didnt know and just to treat my tank with W53. This evening my remaining 3 angel are very lethargic not their normal selves, half an hour ago one was making rapid jerking upwards movements and is clearly dying as he is laying on his side, so i have isolated him in a bucket of tank water. I am so angry, ive got a feeling the remaining 2 are not going to make it. Nitrite 0 , Ammonia 0. I will be mentioning this to the shop manager next time he is in. What disease could it be that the new ones have obviously passed on to my existing angels?

Sorry to read this, it must be heartbreaking.

Unless you know the source of your fish, you should always quarantine. It doesn't cost much to just have a small tank spare, with a small internal running in your main tank (cycled ready for use) There are some really dodgy strains of Angels out there, caused by inbreeding over many many years.

Yep i am gutted ive had some of them for a couple of years now.I have always bought angel fish from this lfs perhaps its just a bad batch which unfortunately has killed my angels too. I understand they are quarantined before being put on sale. Will not be buying any angelfish from them in the future. Will be speaking the manager too.

If they are suggesting treating it with a certain med they must have some idea what they are dealing with. Best bet when dealing with an unknown like this is a separate bare bottom tank, with at least a 50% water change & bottom vac daily. The bare bottom being cleaned daily reduces disease transfer from fish waste, the large daily water changes reduces disease transfer through the water.

Never trust another person's quar procedure, always quar new fish.

I now have 1 angelfish left spoke to the manager who has a said he will replace the 2 angelfish that i bought from him, providing he test a sample of my tank water. I told him it was fine  all in all he was not very helpfull. Im not going to buy/have any more angelfish from there i cant risk it i have lost 4 of my original angels 2 of which were 2 yrs old. Will do a large water change and change my carbon filter. Thanks for all who replied to my post.
