Angel Fish Sickness

wtf? lol paralell universes man

ive been using eSHa 2000 aswell, im not stopping it at day 3 though, have been givving small doses for about 5 days

fish wont eat aswell and is also doing white stringy poop. swimming fine.

HELP!!! :-(

Bacterial infections, but you are using meds so that ok, just peas and frozen daphnia, also epson salt baths if you have any fingers crossed, white stringy poo can mean constipation, bacterial infection, to internal parasites, good luck.

Thanks. I wish I could find a nice straightforward "if it has white stringy poop, hangs about and isn't eating then your angel has got xxxyyy" solution, but from the answers, and reading extensively all over the site I guess I've done all I can and it is just time to cross my fingers.
I am going to fing it really hard if Robbie dies and I hate him being sick. Makes me feel so helpless not to know what's wrong. He's my original angel - I'm up to Williams lll on his pal.
Robbie, Williams, Angels..... sorry - had to do it....... :S

It's so much easier with a cat or a bird - wizz 'em off to the vet and you have an instant 50 squid answer!

No not really i've never had to do it, but if it can save the fish it worth ago, but don't feed for two days, plus you would have to issolate it.

I'll give you nice & straight forward, the problem is you cant get metronidazole in the uk. You may be able to get dimetridazole. Best bet is to call a vetrinarian experienced with aquatics.

Put the angel in a quar tank, I usually use a 10 gallon. Increase the temp over a day or so to 90-94F. Treat daily with 40 mg/gallon metronidazole, with 50% water changes daily. If the fish isn't eating, don't feed for the first 3 days. After 3 days, get some frozen brine shrimp. Take a portion about the size of a few match heads, and sprinkle on some metro. You have to eyeball this one, make the shrimp look kind of like a tiny powdered donut. Once it thaws, mix it in & feed. Sometimes they still don't eat for a few days, but once they start to mouth the food & spit it out, the meds seem to get in their system real good. Continue medicating the water & food for 7-10 days.

Metronidazole is sold as flagyl, het-a-mit, and a few other names I can't recall offhand, used to treat hexamita & hole in the head. They usually suggest 20mg/gallon, this often isn't enough. Metro deteriorates in 8 hours, so you could do twice daily water changes. I've done this on the weekends when I have time.

Don't let the high temp scare you, angels can handle higher than that. I've had them as high as 98 due to a broken heater. Just make sure to have only angels in the tank at that temp. Make sure to have plenty of aeration also, as warmer water holds less O2.

I've also added epsom salt while using metro, this helps with any constipation issues, cleans out the digestive tract. I start with 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water, increasing by 1 teaspoon daily for 2 more days to bring it up to 3 teaspoons per gallon. You will have to adjust how much you use when doing water changes. You may want to give this a try.

ive done the cod liver oil method, just gotta see what it poops out now.

Thanks Tolak - really brilliant. Thanks for taking the time to try and help me and poor old Robbie. I can see that you know your Angels! we can't just buy meds in the UK - too protected. Can anyone in the UK help me - were/how can I get hold of this med? do I ask a vet?

'genesis - you're really brave. am dreading trying it! let me know what happens?

Robbie still much the same - no better, but seems no worse either

i see no improvement after cod liver oil method :-(

Give it time to work, if i dosnt given all the info available and it could be a number of reasons.

thanks to all of you who tried to help. Here's an update:

Robbie died this morning.

He was such a strong beautiful fish with a great character and I will miss him very much.

I still don't know why he was sick or why he died. He was swimming fine right to the end, just not eating and moping. he didn't eat since a couple of days before this thread started. For the last 2 days at the end his belly swelled right up - scales still as smooth and beautiful as ever.

im sorry for you somethingfishie, R.I.P Robbie :rip:

as for my fish, shes getting better, still no solid waste but at least shes back eating again :) thanks for the link on the cod liver oil, it worked a treat.

Sorry about the one that died R.I.P. Glad the other one is on the mend.
