Hi, i've got some small angelfish and when i feed my fish the angels hardly get ANYTHING because my parrot fish and congo's eat all the food before they even get close. they don't seem competitive like all the book etc say about them but i guess its because the congo's are just a lot faster. has anyone else had this problem?

My angels are laid back too. They get plenty to eat tho. Their tank mates simply don't worry about competeing. I do tend to put a reasonable amount in due to my big cats who wait until they feel like coming out for a rummage in the sand substrate for leftovers and their catfish pellets.
Try feeding the others on the other side of the tank to wherever the angels are at the time and then drop some in for the angels so they have a better chance of getting the food while the others are busy with the other bits.
Hugs,
P.

When I feed my fish, my angels are small (about the size of a quarter) and I worry they would not get any food either. Sometimes I do feed a little on each side, but my big severum is first to get food. With me, I feed different foods, but with the frozen foods, the big severum will come and tear it apart and that breaks it into small pieces and the angels get their food. They seem to get more food when I feed flakes. So, maybe you could try that. But I would certainly try feeding a little on each side of the tank. Look where the Angels are when you put the food in. You could also try food that sinks...like shrimp pellets...

Hope this helps.. :look:

If you have a filter that hangs over the back you could try dropping the flakes in front of the waterfall. I do this and it seems to work out fine. I also choose to use 2 filters on each end of my tanks as well. This way you can do it on both ends and everyone gets there food and there are not as many squabbles about territory while feeding.

i do the filters on both ends as well to try and cut down on hot spots in the aquarium as well as a air stone in front of the heater.

i personally wouldn't mix parrots with angel fish. Angel fish are a SLOW moving special as apposed to the parrots and the congos. Simply put mix laid back fish with other laid back fish. How big is your tank. If you tank is too small that may be another reason why you have problems with feeding. I dicovered that if you have a large understocked aquarium you fish are MUCH happier and can be just as spleasing to the eye if you stock it right. Also with a larger aquirium you don't have to worry so much about over feeding. Just make sure you do regular water changes and you should be fine if you feed a tad bit too much. Some corry cats would do wonders with cleaning up the access food that falls to the bottom anyway.

my new angels havn't eaten any food since i've got them, but i see them nibbling away at my plants.
poor plants.

my tank is a 45 gallon tank and is understocked so that isn't a problem: 4 congo's, parrot fish, featherfin syno, 4 corys, 4 angels,
