I am not sure if i have a pair or not, i sought it tbh, but i have recently noticed two of my angels fighting of my other two angels which never used to happen, there both hiding in my cave and when my other two go near they charge them away,

to my questions,

how old do angels haft to be till they pair up and breed, i have only had mine for 3 to 5 months now in my eyes there still baby's, 2 to 2n half inch's tall, tbh i hope they haven to paired yet as i am going away for 4 months and leaving my gf to cope with fry, the world will probably end hahahahaha,

thank you

Mine did that for a couple of weeks and now 2 of them have breeding tubes showing. They are maybe 2.5 to 3" right now.

aah okay, can i ask what breeding tubes are?

Just as a follow up, the female started laying eggs today. The male is trying to fertilize them, can't tell if he's been successful. They ate a few, but then got serious about laying. This is only their first spawn and they are in a community tank so I don't expect anything to come of it. The kids are pretty excited though.

Here's a good picture. Google image search has some good results. The males' tubes are conical and the females' are rounder at the tip.

ash cool thank you i keep an eye out for them :)

Mined paired and spawned the first time when their bodies were about 1 inch. They spawn regularly now, every two weeks, and I have had them about 2 years now. Never had fry because someone, I suspect the bn, eats the eggs within 12 hours. Oh and they like to lay eggs on vertical surfaces. Not really cave layers. But if you want fry, get yourself some sword ferns. Mine lay on the filter intake all the time. Just an FYI.

cool cheers i had a look at swords but my setup is no gd for them i think i hav low/med light with no co2 :) i saw someones lay eggs on the tank walls and on the filter inlet pipe before XD

Watch out for aggression, they can be a real pain in the #16#####, and danger to other fish once they pair and start spawning.

I have had to get rid of almost all my angels recently because the damage they were doing was too much, two of which are now sat in my hospital tank recovering from a weeks worth of abuse.

Swords should do okay with low/med light. Go for it. Also could do some flat rocks at a diagonal. Angels can be all over the place in aggression. My two chase off other fish when spawning, but they live peacefully with neons. So go figure. I have had other angels that were much nastier.

Ok thnx guys I can confirm my angels have got there breeding tubes out and I think have paired up, I have put one of my large cave slate roof on it's aids to encourage them to lay eggs

So you know how long from seeing the tubes to when they will lay eggs is it weeks months or could it be non at all?

Thank.you

Hmm i believe they only show the tubes when they are in the process or just about to breed.

When mine showed their breeding tubes, it was definitely less than 48 hrs to spawning. There was also a noticeable difference in the intensity with which they started cleaning their spawning site.

Hmm interesting my angles been doing this for a week now wired dance and still lip locking? Il try and get picture of what I think may be the tubes :)

Edit: forget to mention they look like there looking for a site pec a few areas but nothing more than that
