Hello,

Unfortunately, I lost my smaller angel fish yesterday, :-( he seemed pretty ill for a while having lost alot of his fins (to other fish I think - but no evidence :grr: ) and I was about to move him to my small tank, but wasn't sure how he'd take the move.

Anyway, I was wondering whether I should get the larger one an equal size angel fish friend or get something else (Tank description in signature). Any ideas what I could get? I would like another largish fish if poss as the others are quite small.

nother angelfish. If u get a pair they will probly breed.

Oh that would be good, does anyone know how to tell a male from a female?

i just looked it up. It says that there is no sure way. Sorry. :(

There is no clear physical sexual dimorphism. Experienced breeders can identify by looking at the ovipositor (breeding tube), but even then, its not a surefire way. You can guess by looking at the shape of the head. Males often times have more of a hump while females are straighter. This is rarely the case and to me is purely guessing. The only way to really tell is if they spawn.

Hi, I use to breed angels and the best way to get a breeding pair is to get about 6 young ones. When a pair is formed then remove the other 4 and you will have a pair that will be content with each other. Don't try and pick out a mate for the one you already have, it won't work. Get a few more to add to your tank about the same size and let them pair off naturally.

Good luck, they require a bit of time... :)
