Hi all.
I would like some help.
I have 120 litre planted tank.Internal fluval filter. jbl presurized CO2 System.
I have had 4 Angel Fish die in 6 days. 2 we only had for a few weeks and the other 2 we had for about a year.
There were no signs of any problems with the fish, no marks, spots, damaged fins, nothing, looked perfect.

Water tests results are-

N02 0
NO3 40 ppm/l
PH 7.2
CO2 12-14KH

What other tests should i be doing? Should i be testing NH3 and NH4 also?

CO2 System was installed 3 weeks ago, a week before the fish started dying.
I have checked the CO2 with 2 different kits and both give the same reading.

Can anyone give any sugestions as to why this is happening?
Thanks.

Have just been out and bought a JBL Combi test set.
Will put results on here when i do them all.
Thanks.

Here are the test results i just did.

KH 8 (dkh)
PH 7
NH2 0.05 (mg/l
NO2 0.05 (mg/l)
NO3 20 (mg/l)
Fe 0.02 (mg/l)
CO2 12-16 (kh)

Any ideas?

When doing water checks, as well as checking your tank water also take a reading of your source water which for 90% of us is our tap water.

Your readings:

Your Nitrite reading No2 I would want to be 0.0 in a tank of mine

Your Nitrate reading No3 of 20 is okay just as long as your water source is not 20

NH3 Ammonia that is a VERY important test to do and I would not want to advise you without that result

FE is iron? cant advise you on that one

No2 Nitrogen dioxide like wise hopefully someone who does know about these readings can help you

I would say that 120 litre tank is not that big for Angel fish but that's just a personal thing.

So for some more help test the Ammonia and the source water and we should be able to give you some advice.

For now nothing does a tank better than a large water change just as long as the water change does not drop the temperature of the tank.

Regards onebto.

Internal bacterial infections are a common cause of sudden unexplained deaths (when everything else in the tank is good) and not uncommon in angelfish (and increasingly common in the hobby in general), so i would personally advise treating the tank with an anti internal bacterial med (like "anti internal bacteria" by interpet).

Well 2 weeks on and all seems to have settles down, no more deaths, still no wiser as to why they died.
