I'm very interested in buying three angel fish for my 28 gallon tank. However, I have concerns:

1.There is a bala shark currently in the tank. Will the two species conflict and kill eachother?

2.I want to add a small corey cat from another tank to this one with the angels. Will he be okay?

3.Same for neons?

Besides those specific questions, what I guess I really want is information on the temperament of the angel fish...agressive of peaceful?...And what types of fish I CAN keep in the same tank.

Thanks for the help,

1. The bala will get along ok with the angels, but not in that size tank. They get to a good foot long, and need a way bigger tank, a 75 or larger.

2. The cory will do better is he has some more corys to pal around with. Minimum group size for corys is 3, 6 corys is an ideal situation. They will do fine with the angels, as long as they have a little hiding place to get away if you end up getting a pair.

3. Neons are part of the natural diet of angels in the wild. Some people have had success with them together, usually when the angels are raised from a small size with the neons. Personally, I wouldn't try it, unless you don't mind having some expensive feeders.

Some angels are very aggressive, some very peaceful, it depends from fish to fish. When they pair up & spawn they can get as aggressive as any new world cichlid. With a tank that size, I would start with 5 or 6, as long as you have at least 18' of height. Angels are tall fish, thus needing deeper water. With 5 or 6 fish, you will more than likely end up with a pair. Bring the other, now larger angels back to the lfs, you may make a profit.

With angels, especially pairs, if it looks like another angel it will be treates as such. Platys work with angels, danios with larger angels, as well as the already mentioned school of corys. I've kept them, along with various plecs guppies, and swords with angels.

A nice setup with that tank would be a pair of angels, a small group of corys, & a bristlenose plec. You could substitute some livebearers for the corys & still have the same bioload .
