One of my angel fish seems to be having problems swimming upright. As it swims it ends up flipping over and doing barrell rolls and struggles to get itself right again.

I'v forgotten what this is called, begins with B doesn't it? Is there anything i can do about it and what damage does it do to the fish?

Swim bladder.
Not good hard to cure once it has progressed.
If the fish is bloated epson salt baths, and shelled peas.

ahh it says on that sight dropsy, thats what i was thinking of.

It says bacterial infection can cause these problems so i might try adding some antibiotics.

Dropsy the fish will bloat up and scales will stick out like a pine cone.

hmm i'v just been watching it for a while and it doesn't seem too extremme. The fish can still swim fine up and down the tank like normal. Usually when it swims abnormally it looks as though the fish is trying to look at something above it. I did a large water change this morning which has disturbed a lot of the plants and there is alot of debris floating around the tank at the moment.

Maybe the debris is just catching the eye of the fish and its trying to see what it is? Now i'v watched the fish carefully this is what it looks like and the fish only rolls when its getting upright.

So judging by the symtoms its definatly not dropsy. Could the fish simply be curious? I'v only had the stocked for 2 weeks and this morning was the first large water change i'v done. So maybe the fish is just curious about all the debris?

Need to look at tank size in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
A fish rolling about is not normal.
Need to answer some of the above questions first.

Tank size is about 130L it has 2 angel fish, 1 plec, 2 clown loaches and 2 gouramis and I dont know the water stats.

Take a sample of your water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
Invest in a liquid master kit of your own.
Sounds like to me the tanks still cycling and it took its toll on the angelfish.
Clown loaches the tanks to small, they need 100 gallons as they grow big.

Go to the beginners topics and read up.

I'll get a test kit tommorow and see what my stats are. Clown loach rarely grow to there proposed 16" length especially not in an aquarium and even so it'll be 3 years before they outgrow a 3 foot tank.
