Woke up this morning to find my angel fish are laying eggs,
they seemed to go through a practice run a few weeks ago and did everything but lay the eggs but to day they've gone through with it.

They are still laying more and are sticking them to the side of the filter (not the brightest place i'd have thought)

Its a community tank but everything else is being kept at bay, even a big snakeskin gourami which they usually back away from.

Will post some pics if i can figure out how

congrats on the soawn

please keep us updated :)

Lucky you and congratulations!! I've only managed to breed guppies so far, not exactly a major achievement but fun and rewarding still.

iv never had angels breed before it was like mine were preforming a dance of some sort all the time do yours do this

Hi all,

Lilfishie, i have 3 angel fish in my tank and have had them since they were only a couple of cm, theyre now just over a year old and a few weeks ago two of them shut the other out and spent all day cleaning the plants on one side of the tank, they did seem to preen in front of each other for a while but after a couple of weeks they calmed down a bit.

I have been doing regular small water changes for a few since they started acting like this in hope of encouraging them.

From what ive read getting them to breed is just a matter of time.

MWN males devolop a small version of the nuchal crest on their forehead where as females have pretty straight profiles.

The bad news is angels eggs rarely make it to hatching in a coomunity tank. Either other fish will eat the eggs or the parents will do so rather than let others get them.

The good news is angels will spawn every 10 days to 2 weeks. Try putting in a slate or larged leafed plant (real or fake) for them to spawn on. That way you can pull and hatch them yourself. if you do this you will need to hatch bbs to feed them the first couple of weeks.
