Don't pour medications into a spoon OVER your tank :/ Pretty stupid, I know.

Well last night right before I was gonna go to bed, I noticed that there was a reasonable amount of scratching going on in one of my 20 gallons. So I pulled out my IckAway, just to add a tiny bit, pulled out a clean spoon, and proceded to drop the bottle of IckAway into the tank. Goes to show how much my motor skills are developed :(

Three 50% water changes later, the water is it's normal non-color, and no fishy casualties. Thank God I don't have any scaleless fish in there.

Also no more scratching.... does ick go away really easily if it's caught in the *very* beginning?

Well, I'm sure you went to bed late that night! Woow. -_-
Well, it really depends on the stage the ich is in. I guess if it's at it's vulnerable "searching" stage now, yes, you would kill it. But if it's already hooked itself onto victims, you might not be able to do much.

I think pretty much any disease/parasite is cured easiest in its incubation stages. I believe, however, that most meds reccomend you use them for the full duration so that they are most effective. Though maybe since yours got a super-dose they won't need it

maybe they're just afraid you'll throw another bottle at them if they start scratching again... between the massive water changes and total overdose, you probably got anything that'll show in the next few days. i'd keep an eye open for the next couple of weeks, myself...

when i was getting the last of my tanks from my boyfriend's apartment, i dropped my impossible-to-find livebearer food and watched it slowly roll over the edge of the balcony to hit 3 stories down on the pavement. :X talk about a sick feeling! a brand new bottle and the only place i know to get it is two hours away! fortunately it didn't bust and i had a special boy who could jump the fence to go get it... :D

i've yet to actually drop anything in the tank yet, tho' suppose my day will come too...

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a week.

It was just one of those moments when you kinda blank out... like I knew I was holding the bottle in my hand, and I knew the dosage needed was in the spoon, but I dropped the bottle. I must be going insane.

It was a really pretty blue for the 10 seconds it took me to grab every container in the house and start pulling out water.

Hi SuckerLove86 :)

Your fish will also scratch if the nitrite level in the water is too high, If that was the problem, all those water changes could have been just what the tank needed to solve the problem. :D

For the very reason of spilling medications when using a spoon i now use a 10ml syringe calibrated in 0.5ml measures for medicating tanks, i have never dropped the meds in the tank but have ruined a lot of clothes and furniture in the past from spilling meds with dyes in them.

When caught early ICH can be stopped very quickly and easily, just make sure you finish the dose of medication to make sure any unhatched cysts arent able to re infect your fish when they hatch in 2 to 3 days time.

I place a beach towel labelled "aquarium" around my 3fter.

And when i add meds i do it in a my meadicine measuring cup labelled "aquarium" LOL.

Its just too be on the safe side. I dont want a green stain oon my carpet.

Good thing you got that cleaned up! I use bottles that only let out a drip at a time for that very reason... im super clumsy!
