Tragedy hath struck last night at my household. 4 of my remaining 5 cardinal tetras died overnight. I found 1 of the bodies stuck on the filter intake, while 1 more was swimming around on it's side with my Discus picking at it mercilessly. 2 of the corpses are gone, thankfully. Obviously eaten. All I can say is, no more tetras for me. I'm not even sure they died because of water fluctuations... maybe one of my fish did it... :byebye:

awww :rip: cardinals :(

sneeky little discus :sly:

I doubt the discus would have killed them all, from what I remember from another thread the discus is not very big. Cardinals are very sensitive, more so than discus IMO. Have they been in the tank long?

Sorry for what's happened. How are your paramters?

Params are fine as far as I can tell... I just can't believe that I blew my hard earned cash on those little SOBs! Any suggestions for what could replace them? Preferably something that will make it past the "1 week" mark? (they were only in there a day and a half)

How do you mean your parameters are fine 'as far as you can tell'?

Cardinals are notoriously difficult to acclimatise and keep healthy and alive even. Perhaps go for a different kind of tetra, although many are sensitive.

Nah I'm off of the sensitive tetras for good. Maybe I'll try black phantoms or something they are hardy right?

My cardinals are surprisingly hardy, never had a problem with them. There must be something they dont like in your tank :/

P.T.

Well I definitely want a school of something and I don't really like tetras at all anymore. :-( I have been traumatized by losing 4 fish in 1 night. How about some bosemani rainbows?

Neons and Cardinals are very sensitive to changing environment (i.e. introduction to another tank)... I lost 2 out of 6 neons immediately, but after that, they are doing great.

I think once you get past the initial stage, they can be pretty hardy but it is tough to get past that stage, unfortunately... -_-

Cardinal tetras seem fine to me. They are doing well in high PH water too (8.0) The tank has been cycled for a long time now...
