How do you keep this plant green and lush? There always seem to be some brown spots. Are those brown spots dead or can they turn green again?

If they've been put in the tank as of lately they'll be melting. Give them time.

Generally, when plant leaves turn brown they wont recover. Perhaps it's getting too much light?
