Well, I had no idea when I added an angel fish to my 55G that I would end up with a pair. I already had a large angel in the tank when I added the second angel. At first the larger angel(the male), chased the smaller angel(the female). A couple of weeks ago I noticed eggs on my anubias. I thought at first my rainbows spawned, but I was wrong. I figured my small angel had eggs and was just releasing them. Then while doing a water change today I noticed the both of them hanging around my driftwood. They have spawned again, this time on my anubias var. nana.

The main reason I thought that I wouldn't get a pair was the sheer size difference between the 2 angels. The female is about 1/5 the size of the male.

I don't expect to raise any fry from this spawn. But now that I know they will do it I am reading up on what it takes to possibly try to raise a spawn. I have a line on a couple of free tanks, one 33G and one 35G. As it is I think it is cool that my 2 angels have paired off. It was completely unexpected.

Here is a pic of mom and dad protecting their eggs.

Those are GREAT pics, thanks for sharing!

Good luck with any breeding ventures. :)

Oh my gosh, they're GORGEOUS!! Congrats on the eggs :)

Ahhh that's lovley ! Let us know how it goes

Well I woke up this morning, and there are still some eggs. In fact I think there are more. There is one that has turned white, so I know it is unfertilized, but the rest are clear. Unfortunatly the anubias is right beside the filter intake, so I am sure any surviving fry will probably get sucked up into the filter. I thought I saw dad having a snack after lights out yesterday, but apparantly I was wrong. I must say, it is really neat, and completly unexpected.

From what I have read it is nearly impossible to sex angels. I know who is the female and male in my tank because I know who was really fat before the eggs were laid  . That and I notice that the male does a lot more work than the female, which I think I read is normal. We are down to about 20 eggs left that look viable. The free tanks I wanted are gone of course, so if fry survive, I am not sure what I am going to do with them. I will know tomorrow if I have any "wigglers".

If I do have a couple eggs that hatch, I will strive to get some pics, if not, well, it was fun while it lasted, and now that I have a pair, I should be seeing eggs on a regular basis. Only time will tell I suppose.
