Am i being really stupid but If you've added mature filter media there's no need to add ammonia is there?
Caused I've noticed on here people working out doses of ammonia, and their cycles beginning to take shape after a few days.

Hello little_nemo,
Your mature media will need some kind of food source to keep the beneficial bacterias alive, by adding h/h ammonia(recommended) or fish food will achieve this in a fishless cycling situation. When you have finished cycling its fish poo/urine, un-eaten food and decaying plant life which gets processed into ammonia that feeds your bacteria within the filters media.

Keep us all posted, Keith.

Yes it will help but you need to sort the amount you tanks going to need, I Suggest you get a bottle ammonia and have a look at the conversion chart, better still check this page out http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/

Have a read of the fishless cycling in the beginners resource section.

The method that most people use is the add and wait.
I also recommend reading about the nitroogen cycle.

Have you started a topic for your fishless cycling log?
It should include details of your setup including tank size, volume, filter and most importantly details about your tap water (its ph,ammonia, nitrite & nitrate content).

There are loads of people here to help including some experts.
At the very minimum you will need:

a bottle of ammonia. This one is commonly used:

and a liquid freshwater test kit. This is one type:

Ebay - £20 is the cheapest you'll find them, avoid shops they slap a £30+ on them. Don't use test strip kits, they can be unreliable and hard to read...liquid test kit = winner
