help, my water turned cloudy so I tested it & the ammonia levels are sky high.I have done three 1/3rd water changes but still high.any help to get it down would be greatful
Thanx

keep doing water changes- the amount should be *no more than* .25ppm

i assume you are cycling your tank. are there fish in it? if there are fish it must stay .25 or less otherwise it could kill the fish. if you are fishless cycling keep it under 3ppm

hi,kairi,
The tank has been running fine for 12 months or so,itsa 3' x2' x14" Tank with
1 x 4" silver shark
2X 5" Tinfoils
2x 2"pink Kissers
2x 2" three spotted gourami's
It has a fluval 4 internal filter & Since the spike I have also put in aair sponge filter
Any ideas?

have you added anything recently? i'm assuming the tank cycled months ago, correct?

the only way to lower the ammonia is water change after water change til it's down. when i cycled my tank i think there were about 5 days where i spent literally 7 hours on water changes b/c of ammonia spikes.

the 2 tinfoils were put in 2 days before the spike but apart from that all was cool

it's prolly a mini-cycle then. although it doesn't make much sense to me why the ammonia would get so high. *shrugs* keep up the water changes, and keep an eye on the nitrItes too, just to make sure they don't spike behind the ammonia.

thanks for that
