Ammonia Spike ... Help

Hi all tank been setup 2months... For the last 4 weeks had steady readings
o ammonia and nitrite
20 nitrate
ph 7.2

Then tonight ammonia at o.4ppm? Done a 50% water change anything else I should be doing
last added fish 28th Dec 4 mollies
help

how did you cycle your tank? i see from your other posts youve not been having much luck with white spot ect, witha 4ppm reading and you only did a 50% change that still leaves 2ppm ammoina left in your tank, do a 90% change leaving just enough water for the fish to swim upright in, and continue to water change untill its 0ppm

Hi thanks for the response....
cycled the tank with a few fish added each week with regular water changes...
Should I do larger water change now or tomorrow ?

Also had added old filter media from a friends tank and have live plants

Do it as soon as possible, just a small amount of ammonia can be toxic to the fish.
