So, I got my bettas a week ago. When one of the girls arrived, she had red gills so I assumed ammonia poisoning and I switched her into the tank as soon as possible. It's been a week, and she still has red gills. I'm doing daily 50% water changes. I put her into a bag to take a pic right quick because she never holds still

Is it just her coloring? Only reason I think that is because it hasn't gone away, and the tank is registering 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 20 nitrate. pH is a stable 7.6. How long will it take for the red gills to away? How can I help her along?

Note: She is the only fish in the tank that is showing red gills

I wonder if it could be due to her light colouring. Lack of pigmentation would make the blood shine through more, making it appear more red. That would be my guess!

I hope so, she's been worrying me crazy! She arrived that way and I just assumed Ammonia Poisoning, because it was such a little amount of water! And it has not gone away, and it's been driving me nuts! (and using up most of my water conditioner with water changes XD)

How does she behave? Does she seem in distress, is she eating? If she acts normal she probably is OK! You were doing all you can to provide an excellent environment for her. I would try to keep her like the others but keep a watchful eye on her for any signs of stress! :look:

She's just fine! She's in fact the food hog - I've had to start seperating her or she'll eat all the food! She swims fine and swims happily, and she'll chase her sister (it's not like aggressive chasing, its more of a slow leisurely stroll) through the rock structure I built them, she seems perfectly fine! And the red is only on one side, her other side is perfectly fine

It doesn't even look like ammonia poisoning to me. The colour is too solid, like it is natural coloring. If she had ammonia poisoning damage with such red gills she wouldn't have been happy looking.
She is very beautiful.

Thanks, I wasnt very sure as I've - thankfully - never had ammonia poisoning in my tanks, so, I'd never seen it, I saw the red gills, and that was the first thing to come to mind. Im glad she's healthy then, I was very worried!
