Morning!

The ammonia in my tank is now at somewhere between 1.2 & 2mg per litre. Yep, that's how helpful my test kit is.

The pinned instructions on cycling say take it to 5parts per million but being no maths genius I can't for the life of me work out how to translate that. Does this count as a spike or not??!

Stupid, useless test kit...<mumble><grumble>

Nitrite now off the scale!

My tank is officially uninhabitable and I've never been so happy.
:D

Preceeding with stage 2 and cutting ammonia doses by half in 5.......4..........3...........2............1...............

No not stupid, yes cut ammonia addings by half. Your nitite spike will probably take twice as long to disappear as the ammonia appearance. Be patient. Keep adding ammonia at half the concentration and wait till nitries are nil.

Woo hoo! My tank finished cycling yesterday!!

I had 0 NH3, 0 NH2 and, after the water change, I had less than 12.5mg/l NO3. That means it took a week (well, from the 10th to the 16th inclusive).
:kana:

So, I promptly went out and bought a small shoal of.....guess what?

Neon Tetras!

Well, they're cool lil guys and I've never kept them before. Well, I tried to but they got eaten within a couple of days so now I decided they would be my first fish!

Will post my possible other choices shortly, once I've finished a little reserach....
:D
