I transferred from a 10 gal. to a 75 gal tank. I put my media from the 10 into the 75's filter along with the new sponge. I am showing nitrite and ammonia. It appears to be steadily rising and 25-30% water change last night didn't help at all. Been 4 days set up. Should I go get the ammonia remover insert for my Aquaclear ? Or will this just confuse the cycling process going on ??? Is there a liquid remover that would work better ? Nitrite was .25 2 days ago and today at 1.5 !

Also my new Aquaclear filter is noisy. The waterfall noise I can understand but it also hums a bit and gurgles. When I turn it off....all the water doesn't drain out of it like I did with my smaller one. Is this normal ?

75 gal tank:
6 purple danios
1 zebra danio
1 opaline gourami
1 polka dot pictus

Okay...well I researched a bit and am thinking "no" to adding an ammonia treatment. I am hoping this is just a small spike and will catch up soon. I will keep doing water changes.

Only other options I see are some used media from store or Bio-spira.

Any comments on my filter ?

Oh....and I seen that Prime will make the ammonia less toxic, which I have been using, but will still show on testing. I seen that you can use a double dose of Prime, but was afraid to. Is it possible to use too much ?

So sorry Y'all....just don't want to lose my fishies. They are all acting fine. Probably being paranoid -_-

Hi,

There is a pinned topic in the new to the hobby section that might help. I think it is called begginer guid or something. there is a section inside that that talks about new tank syndrome. I think that might be what you are dealing with. Anyway, it should help you get you nitrite and ammonia back down.
I'm moving soon and taking my tank with me, I hope it doesn't happen to me :( I hope this helps.

I have read that and understand. Only time will tell. I guess what I am wondering is if this is a mini cycle and will clear up soon or if my nitrite will peak out and take 2 months ! Nobody knows. Just worried for my fishies and want to make things comfortable for them as I can. Will check stats and another water change in the morning !

Hope your move goes well for you and your fishies too guppy fan !

Well, since you have a AquaClear ( i do too, and i love it!!!!), you can buy Ammonia Pad's, which absorb it. I have one, just in case i have a issue, since i added a new filter. They are dead cheap. I got one for my Mini AquaClear( 20g filter), and it was like 2 dollar's at Petsmart.
