hi guys,

just like in the other thread 'need help with feeding'. i think that the ammonia level of 1.0ppm is to high because i think that it is killing my plants because the leaves are starting to get black on them. i have just done a 25% water change and i hope this helps, but are the any suggestions on what i should do because my fish could be in danger of dieing to. so are their any suggestions on how i can bring the ammonia level down and what i could do about the plants.

thanks again

I wouldnt have thought it was the Ammonia killing the plants as many people say they do a fishless cycle with plants in and the Ammonia level goes up to 5ppm.

Hi Red Turq,

Ammonia won't be damaging your plants. Ammonia is actually the food of choice for most aquatic plants so it won't harm them don't worry. If your plants are going black, they may be dying for another reason ie. nutrient deficiency, lack of light etc etc. Otherwise it could be algae. You may get a positive ID if you can post up a picture in the planted tank section.

With regard to the fish, as i said in the other thread, ammonia is lethal to fish in even very small doses. If ammonia level is still above 0.25 after a water change, change some more. Don't be afraid to do big water changes either. Up to 50% is quite normal, and up to 75% would be fine if ammonia levels are high.

Water change, water change, water change!

Hope this helps. Good luck! :good:

ok guys i will try and get a pic up for you and i will empty my tank out to around 50%. then hopefully my ammonia drops.
