This could apply to any fish food really, but i chose prawn for example

Question..........

If i place a prawn in my aquarium, does the overall ammonia release from the prawn differ depending on whether or not it's eaten by the fish?

For example, if i put x10 prawns in the tank and they go uneaten, is the impact on the biological filtration greater than if the prawns are consumed immediately by the fish?

Another way of looking at it, does the eating of the prawn by the fish some how reduce the overall level of ammonia that ends up in the water, or does it make no difference?

My guess would be that when the fish is digesting it, it absorbs what it can and whatever it can't, it just poops out. Since it absorbs some of the food, my guess would be that only some of the prawn is turned into waste (ammonia). That is just a guess though, I am not 100% sure.

that's what i figure Ryan as well, just wonder if anyone is more scientifically aware of how much less ammonia is released via digetion, we shall see.....
