Hey everyone, well i had an Ammonia outbreak a couple days ago but i think i have it under control, since it is a new tank (22 gal.) we think it was a result of adding to many fish to fast. i waited a week bfor adding fish and what not. I also made the mistake of adding my goldfish which i had already had in the tank befor i added the tropical fish. I had Bubbles a fancy Bubble eye goldfish, aout 2 inches long, and then a comet about 1 and 1/2 inches long. i had been warned about the aggressiveness of the comet, but had had no problems with him and bubbles in a tiny 2gal. aquarium along with an albino Coreycat. anyways i had gotten my 22gal. tank as a christmas gift to put my goldfish in. i waited a week befor adding them in and i added 1 anglefish (babey) 4 Guppies, 6 Neons, 2 new Corey cats, 1 Dojo Loach, 2 roseybud fish, and 2 Mollies (1 sailfin, 1 dalmation) bubbles died from respetory problems a couple weeks later (i had had her for about 3 years, and had no problems until i moved her) that same night she died, 1 Guppie was found dead, along with all my neons, 1 coreycat, my angelfish, and 1 roseybud. we think it was because of the ammonia levels, (since then i have moved my goldfish and am getting a 10 gallon for him until hes big enough to be put in a pond) Anyways, i was doing a water change and i happened apon a Molly fry, which i thought was strange seeing as my female molly did not look pregnant when i had bought her dec. 25 until jan. 12. the little guy isnt even an inch yet. i think it is odd though because besides the fact my female sailfin did not look pregnant, (the dalmation is a male), there were no other dead/alive fry in the tank(could have been eaten but their should have been atleast 2/3 right?) and seeing as i have not had my guppies for more than 5 weeks, than my mollies couldnt have mated, heres my question:
Is their anyway i bought her pregnant? and if so will she have more babys? and is it possible for her to just have given birth to one babey?
any information could help alot, and suggestions on how to keep the ammonia down in my tank is greatly appreciated!

(I have recently bought the babey Mollie a Breeding/ Raising fry container, he/she is doing great, and eating incredibly. he is still tiny, but is making improvements.) :hyper:

The molly may have gotten pregnant before you took her home and her her babies in your tank. Livebearers can have anywhere from 1 to over 50, depending on the size of the fish. It is hard to tell how many she will have, unless you can tell how big she is and how old she is.

It sounds like you did add too much fish at once. You should have added a few fish each week or so. Perform a water change to reduce the ammonia.

Check your filter. The fry may have gotten sucked into your filter. I would place a cut up fish net or a pre-filter sponge over the filter intake to prevent any baby fish to getting sucked up.
