Hi,

has anyone ever used Ammo Lock 2 by manufactured by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals ? Here is it what it promises.

Instantly detoxifies ammonia from fish waste, tap water, uneaten fish food, decomposing plants, and algae. Prepares tap water for plants and fish.

Removes chlorine and chloramines from tap and well water.
Eliminates ammonia stress and promotes healthy gill function.

Anyone got any views ??

dont DO NOT use it! It gives false ammonia readings, terrible stuff.

the one by the pharmasutical aquariums company gives false readings, lol, which is funny, as it is by the same company.

I use it and haven't had a problem. I avoid it in my 10 gallon, although I accidentally put it in there a few times. I use it in my betta bowls though.

I used it and yes it's true that it will cause false reading for a time but so what. When you've made a serious mistake like massively overstocked a brand new tank then this stuff REALLY comes in handy. I mean it seriously saved my fish. I only used it for a week but that was enough to pull them through the worst part of the cycle.

i think it is good.i have ammo lock and it saved my overstocked new tank wen i was a newbie from dying....or at least brought ammonia down to help.

It doesn't actually bring down your ammonia which surprisingly is what is so great about it. In my understanding it does not interfere with the nitrogen cycle it just protects you fish from ammonia poisoning during it.

I think it is good for short term emergencies to get the ammonia level down, until the tank can level out with water changes.

Hrmm.

here they say that it doesnt "remove" it, but "detoxifies" the ammonia.

I've been told this as well by my LPS.

I used it in the past and when I did a test, everytime it was still reading levels that were high. I called my LPS and they told me that the test will still show levels because the ammonia is still present, ammo lock simply detoxifies it.

The above link is for pond ammo lock, but I'm sure all the ammo lock products are the same.
