LOL, It looks so old fasioned! I smell mormons.
excuse me? we're in the deep South here; Mormons are around and about, but they aren't a
major long-term influence. although i can't speak to the exact numbers, i know that there's the Catholic church, two Methodist churches, an Episcopalian, a Presbyterian, at least one Lutheran, and probably close to a dozen Baptist churches in the Auburn-Opelika area. i can't think of a single Mormon edifice--but i know that there's a decent number of LDS students (most of whom are really quite nice).
the *real* secret of Auburn's appearance is that its a very old college town (since the 1800s!) with a lot of tradition-loving rich alumni. everything "historical" is preserved because it reminds the alumni of the good-ol' days of the 70s, when this particular look had previously been preserved from the 50s based on the 30s and so on back

even older styles are also now favored because they fit better with the truly old buildings that had been preserved as part of the heritage of the university.
i tell you what wendy, if you came back today, you wouldn't know that any time had passed!! it was
70 degrees yesterday! as much as i appreciate the break from freezing, it should NOT be 70 degrees in the middle of December.
