ive recently bought an amazon sword plant

it was big and nice when i got it

now all the new leaves are really small and not that long like the others

(the stems are short)\

will this fix itself over time?

my current conditions are

dit co2 ... not very high tech

laterite gravel and liquid ferts of 2 kinds

fish ... tiger barbs and an apisto

other plants... hy poly - growing well
and chain sword - growing fine ]
anubias nana- also good

its a 10 gall and the lighting is 1.7 wats per gall

They will probably grow over time. Can you post a picture of your plants?

Paula

Submerged growth is coming through it will be fine. If you want to give it a boost pop a root fertiliser tablet under the roots.

ok ill see if i can get those root tabs

i heard that they raise your nitrite or nitrate or somehting....

as for pics ill try to send pics as soon as i get my camera workinjg

Yeh its probably just adjusting to the conditions in your tank. You have to remember that plants from shops are (normally) grown in perfect conditions and often also emergent, so the plants have to adapt to the new environment and that takes time, months in some case. So be patient, if its not dieing then its doing fine.

Root tabs shouldn't increase NO3, just check the box and get ones that don't contain any.

ok cool thanks alot for tha help

I recieved a couple of swords from members on here that were a couple of leaves big and not very tall. i planted them without any ferts or co2 and they slowly produced new leaves but the old ones died rapidly. I soon added Nutrafin root sticks [usually £3.99 for 6] and stuck a couple under each one, after a month they had grown immensly and without any ferts just the root tabs.

I strongly recommend buying some root sticks/tabs and sticking them underneath the roots of each sword and I would alomost garauntee a growth spurt.

Saying that, once the swords have become quite large i would recommend supplementing them with the right co2 and ferts. More info on that would have to come from other members as I am only starting out with the whole EI planted method.

is there a particular brand that you recommend?
and should i add it right away? cuz i just got them a week ago

I've used the seachem ones with good effect, just there are lot of types and most would be ok. And yes use them straight away.
