I just acquired a 40 gallon tank (30"*18"*18") and I'm looking to put together an amazon biotope. My plans so far are as follows:

Fish:

7 * bronze corydoras
6 * neon tetra
2 * angelfish

Plants:

Amazon Swords
Cabomba

I already have plenty of Bogwood. Does anyone have suggestions for other fish/plants? Or perhaps replacement fish that would work better, or be more accurate to the biotope? I would also appreciate any suggestions people have for a substrate. Thanks very much,

Az

I'm in a similar boat but with a 125g tank.

Fish such as Tetras, Corys, Angels, Sevs, Earthmovers are all a good starting point.

It's hard to narrow it down, trust me! :D

As for plants, go fro whatever you like the look of! I've got Amazon Swords, amongst many species not found in an SA biotope.

I'm using a mixture of gravel, 3mm sand and 1mm sand in my tank to make a natural riverbed environment. Lots of wood and a few rock caves etc...

Hi

You might wanna swap the Neons for Cardinals as Neons can end up a tasty snack for Angels.

Show us pics when it's done. My tank's a similar set up except I'm not sure Platys would fit with the Amazon theme lol!

I would do the following:
* 7 Corys
* 10 Cardinals
* group of dwarf Cichlids OR a pair of Bolivian Rams OR a pair of Keyholes

(In my experience Angels do best in groups of 6 and that tank is too small for 6.)

Plants:
* 1-2 Amazon Sword(s)
* Cabomba caroliniana
* Sagittaria subulata
* Java moss
* Myriophyllum mattogrossense
* Bacopa australis

Not meaning to hyjack the thread - but I would be very grateful if you could post up some pictures of your substrate?

Regards.

HEres what I would add to your tank :good:

German blue rams wont fit in with the other fishes temp needs. GBR do sometimes do fine at lower temps but often they only live a few months rather than the 3-5+ years they should.

If it was me i would choose a specific river and do a biotope from there because the Amazon is a big place. Im doing a Rio Tapajo biotope with my 150G and theres seems to be quite a few interesting fish from there.
