hey everyone, im thinking of doing a amazon biotype for the 29 gallon im getting next friday, if i was going to do it i was going to get a few peices of mopani wood, darker brown sand (any ideas, is play sand brown?) and live planted.

if any one could give me ideas on fish that would be great i was thinking apistos and possably a pair of small earth eaters and some tetras

i dont want any angel fish though,

any fish recomendations would be great :good:
thanks

I've just put playsand in my tank and it's a creamy colour. Very light. Cheap though.

i think im going to do a trio of apistos, a ram of some sort probably a pair or trio bolivians, 6 corydora (they are from south america right?) and 6-10 tetras probably cadinals, i know that this is slightly overstocked so dont say this is over stocked

A Trio of Apisto isn't a good idea, they are like most Cichlids and monogamists, one male to one female. The same with the Rams.

i read in a magazine thet you can keep a trio in a 20 gallon 1m-2f thats what i thought with the rams also

and what about leafs in the tank, becuase apistos are found amongst the leaf litter in shallow waters in black water tribuaries so i want to recreate the natural habitat as much as i can so my question is what leafs and how often do i have to change them?

thanks

I think someone has done this type thing before.

Just find some dry leafs, and from what I understand all you have to do is boil them... Not sure if this is 100 percent correct though...

I would not call Rams monogomous at all, and I have always read that Apistos are harem spawners as well so a trio should be fine.

I put leaf litter in my tank before, it is pretty cool. I used dry oak leaves that I found in my yard. Just boil them until you can see that they are sinking to the bottom of the pot then you can place them in your tank, so it is pretty easy. I would reccomend Oak leaves if you can find them, they have a really pretty dark burgundy color after they are boiled. The fish really love to move the leaves around looking for food too.

Good luck on your tank, sounds like a cool project.

ill see what i can find for oak leafs, i get a 15% employees discount so i can get a 29 gallon for around 85$ ready to go and the wood is $8 each and i will only put 1 or 2 vallis in there with oak leaves and sand substrate, its sounding like a cool tank to me

thanks for the replys
