Just tryed to give a bit of advice and got my head bitten off, I don't claim to be a walking encyclopedia but I do have years of experience & I've learned by some BIG mistakes. I Don't expect people to even heed my warnings but I dont like abrupt rudeness. AH well I feel a bit better now I have sounded off. I ONLY WANTED TO HELP. :dunno:

Julia... I don't know the facts here, but I don't like rudeness either! If someone feels you've not given the best advice, they should be polite about it! Hang in there. ;)

I think you should ask a mod to move this to the general talk forum. I dont know of the conversation that you are refering to but if you find this reply offensive then yes you are to easily offended :p

If someone thinks that Im rude, he/she could always send me a mail about that... But you must always remember too, that you have diff. culture than ours. For example... We do not have this smalltalk like you have (especially in usa), we don't use words like "(yes) indeed, please, ..." just for expletives, so e.g. when I writing something I say it just simply. It may sounds rude, but for me it's normal and those expletives sound unnatural/theatrical.

So, if some writes something that is incorrect, I'll probably say "You are wrong, because...." unlike you may say "In my opinion, I think you could be probably wrong, bacause.... Could you please check..."

So, of course, people who have used to hear these expletives may think that Im rude, bacause I don't use those "expletives". So something that is polite and just normal communication to me, may be impolite to you.

Well MrV, if you don't understand the English language, don't use it. Sorry for being so harsh but i don't think the topic regards language translation.

Well now, that is the definition of rudeness. I am very happy people who dont use English as their first language take the time to post here, I think that attitude is not what this forum is about at all....

Hi Ken. Was not having a go at peope who don't use English as first language, just a passing comment saying I don't think that they should they should try and dictate how it should be heard/read. Its fish after all, not Oxbridge.

Well, I could also write it in finnish (this is an international forum - right?), but you probably wouldn't understand it at all? Tänk om svenska? Oder auf Deutsch? ;) Yes, it would be much better, if I use english still...

but i don't think the topic regards language translation.

Unfortunately my crystall ball is quite dim today, so I don't know what it's rude for Julia. Has someone said something, or written something not in polite manner... Too dimmy crystall ball! Damn c-ball!!

I dont think that was what was said really, I think people should not feel any dis-advantage here because they aren't aware of all the niceties that we take for granted or dont feel comfortable using them. I think it was an explanation, not an attempt to dictate how anything should be heard or read :)

Celebrate our differences

You really should read our forums. After reading them, you probably will be suprised about how rude we are  Literally! There is no polite manners at all. If some one e.g. tells that (s)he keeps goldfish in a tank that is only about 100 liters, you can only imagine how many neg. replies (s)he gets. And if (s)he say that (s)he has no clue at all about water values, those people attack her/him B)

And like you said "It's a fish after all", not any fancy stuff that can be replaced.
