Am I Overstocked?

I tried the calculator just out of curiousty.

In my 20 gallon I can get 80cm more fish and in the seven I can get 32 cm.....

Um.... I don't think so! I'm already at my limit in both tanks!

Yeah, like I said there's a lot of debate on calculators.. Ultimately, you have to research each individual fish and go by their temperment, spacial requirements, and specific needs. It all comes down to research, research, and a little more research.

i just go by 2 inch per gallon, i try to stay on 1 inch per gallon side

Well my cichlids are only really territorial within themselves, the females especially, the male just goes with which one gives him the tail flick, if you know what I mean. :hey: Otherwise they keep themselves to themselves.

Calculators are just a guide i guess, but you can increase the stocking density of a tank with a narrow surface area by increasing the filtration and aireation. I can put the venturi back on my internal filter to further aireate the water to help support more fish.

I may give it another week and see what i think. But i know that if i do, that's it, no more untill the guppies croak of old age in a couple of years!!!

You guys also notice that that calculator is part of a fish shop's website....

...and what do fish shops sell everyone?

FISH

And the MORE the merrier, if you catch my drift..... Naughty Fish Shop. :sly:

Have you ever noticed that when that question is asked "am I overstocked?" the answer is never "no". We're all too keen to fill those 1/2 inch gaps that nobody is swimming in at this very moment!!
