I really think I am losing him!! I feel like crying. I feel like I have tried everything and he just can't seem to get healthy. I changed all the water, took out the rocks on the bottom as I thought they might be harboring bad stuff. Now he looks to be a little more enflamed around the white spot. You all must know how much I am stressing about this. I don't want to watch him die and not do anything. Columnaris??? I'm really sad. He has come back from the brink before and I have cut down on his food. I'm just beside myself. Need hugs.
:-(
This has been going on for at leat four weeks now. I'm scared

We are talking about a columnaris spot, what med are you using.

I thought columnaris killed quite fast and I have been obsessing about this spot for almost a month now. Not treating with any meds right now because I am so confused.

Treated with tetracycline about a month ago for what we thought was fungus.
Treated with melafix and pimafix after that. He seemed to heal well, but the single spot never went away.
Now, the spot remains and a small hole in the tail.

He seems fine at most times and blows bubblensts regularly. I thought columnaris would attack more quickly. I am just a loss for what to do. I'm scared to over medicate him and kill him with that.

Advice?????

Columnaris spots don't seem to kill as fast, where is the spot is it white with a cirling of red around the outside, or a red spot in the centre.

The spot is behind one eye and is about a tad bit larger than a pencil point. He did not have it when I got him and I just looked at him and it does not seem red today. It is right near the fold of gills that spread when he flares. No cirlcling or red or within it either. Should I treat for columnaris ?

He hasn't been flickidng and rubbing as he or laboured breathing, if not I would treat it as bacterial for now, holes in the tail can be bacterial finrot as well, so i would use tetracycline.

What names would the stuff be under at the pet store. The fish store I went to originally turned me off because it seemed unclean. The Petco here has no one that will really help me. Sorry that the spot is not very visible. My Photog skill are lacking as badly as my fish rearing. :/

No flicking or rubbling really. He seems to be breathing okay and fold himself in the plant leaves at night for a snooze.

Seen spots like that before it looks white with a red spot in the middle, i would definately treat it as bacterial.

Sorry for the crazy replies. Clicking crazily. so sorry

Thanks for all the help Wilder. Very reassuring. :good:
