hi all- very nice sight- quite helpful. i just joined 10 mins ago. who thinks im full and who thinks i can add? i got a us 55 gallon tank with 1 large pleco, 8 neon tetras, 10 black neon tetras, 2 dwarf gourami and 2 platties. all opinions and/or ridicule is welcome- thanks

the only problem i could see is, depending on your tank dimensions, is that your large pleco will be cramped.

Other than that, i think you have room too add in 9x Cardinal neons and 9x glow lights. Take the pleco out (depending on dimensions) and you might be able to do a little more o_-! it IS 55 gallon, and all those fish you listed are realitivly 1-2 inch small fish. so you can afford more stocking...

or instead of the above listed i mentioned.... get 5x roseline sharks! :D Peaceful, don't disturb tetra, probably work in your 55. Especially -1x large pleco.

yeah. I can see him out growing that. I hear too often. My plan for plecos are to let them get just the right size where they almost outgrow the tank, then trade in, get a new 2" pleco, so i profited $25, and get some other stuff with the money. Therefore, i get a pleco, and i get money ^_^. I heart my LFS.

Depending on species of plec yes it may get to big and yes you get fit more in your tank.

Gank- your idea doesn't actually make you any money unless you don't feed the plec. If you buy one for $3 then feed it for say 6 months at which time it could well be over 7" and all the adding water changes you will need with a plec and water, dechlor and food cost money.

jay jay, the algea pelets are thrown in originally because the flying fox/ a few others liked to nibble on them. So the plec can just chew on those too. o_-~ A can of algea pellets here is $5 us dollars and would feed a plec for... oh... 1 -2 years? si...

Fish food goes off after 3months after being opened according to what people say on here.

fellas, fellas....

i wasnt looking to start anything. i appreciate the opinions though. anyone else have any opinions on my 55 galloner

Sorry i was proving a point to gank, on your tank you looking into adding more fish?

its a common plec (ive seen it in stores referred to as a 'snow leopard' plec) its up to a good 10 inches maybe even 12 and i wouldnt be suprised if she had another 1 or 2 left in her- its about 3 yrs old. yeah jay- im just looking into what ppl think if i got room. i dont want to overpopulate, i got lots of tetras, but theyre so small they dont add a big bioload at all. i guess the same goes for the gouramies and platties. all opinions are appreciated, even if the opinion is that im at capacity

It shouldnt get any bigger than that (i think), But you will need to upgrade tank if you wish to still keep it (maybe to a 75 gallon?).

Even with the plec you could still fit a couple for fish in, i recommend cories, they are just so much fun to watch. I have 4 bronze cories in my 20 gallon, they're at about an inch so far.

:good:

You could add more, but I would add a few more tetras first, and if you add fish, do it gradually.

Common plecs can grow 2'+ if it doesn't grow more it means it's stunted and that it's slowly dieing.

Hey, I was wondering, how do you like your dwarf gourami?? I am looking into certain fish for a tropical aquarium. I want peaceful fish that are prefferably not fin nippers. If you could tell me about them i would appreciate it. thanks
