Hey- i want some oppinions on if im doing the right thing here:

My betta had torn fins a while ago which have now healed up. However is Dorsal, Pectoral and Caudal fins have sort of fused together like dreadlocks (ive had a go at attaching a picture). Hes isolated, floating in the bigger tank at the min and being treated for fungal infaction- is this the right thing to be doing?

Really appreaciate any comments

I think so. Just be sure to keep his water clean and fresh, this should also help.

Hes furious about being on his own, i hope this clears up quick. Throwing a bit of a temper tantrum.

bless him mine is a bit like that at the moment! What else do you keep him with?

:)

Hes in with 4 cherry barbs, 6 cardinal tetras, 2 zebra danios, a celebes rainbowfish and a bristlenose catfish. Generally its all pritty peicefull, especially now hes learned to stick up for himself a bit. But he loves the space in the community tank.

Is yours in on his own or in a community?- im wondering if any bullying has gone on which i havent seen

turn up the temp and feed good quality food, what i do when anything like that happens (split fins). seems to work for me.

Thanks for the advice! Ive got some frozen mosquito lavea somewhere, might try him on some of that. Theres one or two fluffy patches still on his tail, but he flaired at me for the 2st time yesterday so i think hes feeling on the mend and wants some more swimming space!

my betta is in the community he does lengths, swimming very slowly as if to say 'this is my tank' ! He's in with Harlequins, Danios, 2 bristlenose plecos and kuhli loaches. He's very happy there and there are no nipping

Hows your guy coming on?

If he is totally healed from the tears, I suggest exercising him using a mirror up against the glass of his tank. My boy recently got sticky fins that 'dreaded' together too. I worked out it was because he could no longer see, thus flare, at the girls on the other side of the divider. Three days later, after 20-30 minutes of flaring a day (broken into several sessions, not one bulk time) he is looking and feeling great! I had a bubblenest 6inches by 7inches this morning

Hes doin better, tried the mirror thing and it worked a treat. Now hes bouncing round and demanding more space- so i might let him back into the main tank tommorw. :good:

Havent had a bubble nest yet, hes had a go but gets bored half way though! Hes gorgous but not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Good, am glad it is working already. I do the mirror thing a few times a day, its hand held and can actually be left propped up at the tank if need be. However at the moment my girls are jumping clean out of the water, over the divider and into his side of the tank. That is over 3inches of jumping! So yeh, they are all getting plenty of activity in everyday lol. Luckily my boy and girls don't harm each other, they just hang out. The girls don't go for him and he doesn't go for them. So I am using the mirror less each time now.
