I think it's always polite just to say hi. A forum is a bit like someone's home - you wouldn't walk in without knocking and saying hello now would you
So - hi everyone! A bit about me is in order I guess. I am a professional webmaster and software/script writer with time to spare and I have been looking for ways to fill that time with something constructive, fun and rewarding. What better then than to start keeping tropical fish.
I have a 20(ish) gallon tank and have spent the last 10 days or so reading everything I can find on fish and fish keeping. I like to read up on a thing before diving in (no pun intended). I set the tank up yesterday with an undergravel filter (mainly because it was an inherited tank - I like to do things cheap if I can), heater, mixed gravel bed (ordinary coloured gravel and some substrate for planting) and some pebbles/rocks.
When I get a chance I'll post a piccie here so you can all see it. Then maybe I'll post a few more as it develops and we can have a sort blow by blow account of how a newbie copes when everything is new - sounds like a good idea to me if only for other newbies to learn from my mistakes - of which I've no doubt there will be plenty
