Currently I have Riccia netted to some slate in my tank. It looks very nice but the problem is every few weeks I have to take it all out, remove loads of the riccia and then net it all up again because the riccia grows out of the netting really quickly (just removed enough to fill two large breeding traps!)

What Im looking for is ideally something similiar in appearance that will actually root to the rock. If there is nothing like this then some suggestions on low growing/bushy/carpeting plants that will root to rocks would be great.

Pelia seems to root itself onto the rock in my tank, but has to be held down well before.

Good suggestion. From what I have read it doesnt tend to float like riccia so might do the job nicely. Will see if I can get a small amount and see what its like. Thanks :good:

Yeh pelia would work or a moss, both tend to be quite slow growing though, unlike riccia.

I use pelia in my tank and the stuff is lovely!
it does however have a disgusting habit of tiny bits breaking off and clogging up the substrate when you first put it in the tank.
I personaly would recommend it 100% it looks so good once its established.

Cool, going to put a post in the plant swap thread to see if anyone wants to swap some for some riccia (I have soooo much riccia right now :) )

you probably wont get any since its so slow growing and unlike riccia doesn't spread enough to have enough to swap it viably, at least that's my experience with it.
if not green line has it under monosoloenium tenerum

java moss grows on my wood and coconut easily, not sure about slate but you could try it....
