Hello

Posting this for a friend...

His girlfriend REALLY REALLY does not want him to keep bloodworms in the freezer...and he is thinking of getting a betta...can you give an alternative to frozen bloodworms? maybe some something he can keep in a container by the aquarium?

Thanks

you can get freeze dried ones and he could also look into the tetra delicia range which is meaty foods such as bloodworm in sachets of gel type stuff.

i wouldn't suggest getting frozen bloodworm anyway if the only fish he wants to keep is a single betta, the frozen stuff comes in portion sized cubes, the portion is about right for a 40 gal community tank fully stocked so he'd either be massivley overfeeding or he'd have to defrost a full cube feed the betta part of it and throw the rest away which is pretty wasteful.

a betta really doesn't 'need' bloodworms in it's diet, he's best finding a good quality flake/pellet type food and using that predominantly supplemented with the odd bit of meaty stuff or fresh veg every so often.

you can feed the betta on prawn/ shrimp. Buy some and keep them frozen, then take a bit out, defrost it and cut it into little bits. Offer a few bits at a time.
If you don't want frozen food at all, then grow mozzie larvae and daphnia outside in ponds of green water.
