okay so i cannot put a blue dempsey with my discus. How about a gold severum. I hear they are generally peacful and i have ample space in my aquarium. I just need some type a large pretty fish with my discus so, im hoping this works.

EDIT: I'm actually re-considering what i said. In a big enough tank, it may very well work. ;)

i dont necessarily NEED a big fish i just personally want one, anybody have any suggestions. I also has to be colorful

I don't quite get how you think Discus are not large and colourful though

I saw a huge discus once...couldn't tell you how huge it was!

To be honest I think Discus are deserving of being the only large show fish in a tank, honestly I think a small shoal of large Discus with lots of medium/large Cardinal Tetras and maybe one or two pairs of apistos makes a very balanced looking tank. Adding other big fish IMO makes it look like a petstore tank. If you haven't kept Discus before I strongly recommend keeping them on their own for a few months, maybe even six or more so you are confient with them. If Discus get upset you may upset the other healthy fish trying to sort out the Discus and endup with lots of expensive, dead fish.

basic answser is no though, my sevrums would happily wear out, stress and eventually kill some discus.

I agree completely.

I kept my Gold severum with my Uaru for a few months (Uaru are like discus, but they get a bit bigger, are less colorful and are hardier) and left the poor Uaru in tatters.
I am currently raising a smaller pair of severum and uaru to see if they will get along better though.

Discus are, from what I hear, easily stressed fish, and stress leads to illness. Try to keep the stress (Other large cichlids ;) ) out of their lives :)

Acturally they seem fine together I have put a few of my current sevy over to my discus tank for a shot amount of time like 2 days or so. Inorder to completely tear down my 40g to clean up those damn algae.

yes, ive kept discus before. I've had much luck with them and think they are very colorful, my problem is that i just want some type of bulkier fish in their with them (seeing as discus stay very thin but wide in diameter.) I guess though i should just stick to what i have so thanks guys, if any more suggestions please reply
