Sometime next week I will begin adding fish to my 125 gallon project now that parameters have settled and the live plants have started to establish themselves with new growth, but I'm not sure in what order I should do it via batches. Thing is, more than likely I'm going to be ordering online (selection/quality around here is awful but there's a shockingly good Petco that I've completely forgotten about until last night and will check out soon) so I'd like to try getting what I'm looking for in a minimal amount of batches otherwise the shipping is going to add up considerably.

The full plan is:

Black neon tetras
Neon/cardinal tetras (still flip flopping if I want to spend the extra for cardinals)
Panda corydoras
Marble/silver hatchet fish (would prefer marble if I can find any)
Apistogramma (based on research and availability, most likely borelli)

If I acquire one species at a time, from what I estimate the corydoras should be first but that's the most I can surmise on my own.

The Black neon's are the hardiest so add them first, then the apistogrammas, and then it doesn't matter.

Neons have their own in-house “Neon Tetra Disease“ disease ala “Dwarf Gourami Disease” disease don’t they?

I've never heard so much back and forth in opinion regarding the aquarium hobby than with neons vs cardinals. On both sides you've got people saying that neons are hardier except they're not anymore because they've been inbred/overbred to oblivion, to cardinals being even less hardy because they've been wild caught except they're not anymore and have been captive bred for a while but now are ALSO starting to have the same issues with overbreeding weakening bloodlines.

Most say to just "Check the breeding stock" but let's be honest, unless you're going to a private breeder or something all of them are coming from your typical Asian fish farm so that's not really all that helpful of a tip.

If ordering online, check out TWS, if you haven't already...huge selection, good service, but shipping can be pricey: https://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/
