i just received 16 unwanted fish from a friend they are all cobalt blue cichlids, now now all are very skinny, so my guess is that they have worms? i am treating them with fluke and tapeworms tablets! is there anything else i can do? feed them more to get there body size back?

Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Being skinny can be old age, fish tb, internal parasites.

have the fish lost weight due to not feeding enough.

Signs of internal parasites are.
Long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo.
Being skinny or bloated.
Sunken in belly.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Bent spines sometimes.
Sometimes the fish will swim on its side.

Depends on which parasite it is as not all internal med work on certain parasites.
With worms you usally treat to kill the adults then retreat again to kill any young that are left.

Not sure on meds in australia contact colin t a member of this site.

i have only received the fish 3 hours ago & the tank is fully cycled.i am seeing Long stringy white poo, or clear mucas poo!

what should i do? i have treated with fluke and tapeworms......ammonia is 1ppm, nitrates 5pm, nitrite 0pmm.

Water change as you have ammonia reading.
Can you see any worms prutruding from the anus.
I would try and find a med that treats more than two internal parasites, One that treats a wide range.
Left a link in the above reply for colin, contact him as he from ausralia and he will no what meds are available to you in your country.

Once fish are really skinny sometimes the damage has been done as internal parasites damage the internal organs.
Also internal parasites cause bacterial infections.
I would still treat the whole tank but some fish might not make it if the damage has been done.
