Can you give us a bit more information? Are you saying that the Molly had had the babies and that you had left her with them in the breeding net or did you remove her out of the breeding net and then came back to find 19 dead fryafter you'd been out? Mollys can eat their fry so if you left her with them she probably had a good meal!

PS: I've just found that you had posted this in two seperate messages and that the other contains replies and the clarification I needed. Sorry you're so dissapointed but better luck next time, that's one thing you can be sure of with livebearers, there will be plenty more babies!

Well you have not given enough information for us to determain what could of happened. You molly could of eaten her fry if she was in the net with them. Livebearers are not really good parents like that of the cichlids species. Also if they were left without beeing feed unproper food they could of have died. I cant say much for now. So the best you can do is just give me more information.

hi
sometimes fry can just die for no apparent reason and as said mum will eat the babies especially if left in a small breeding net with them (will stress the mum out) if you havent done so already take the mum out of the breeding net.
small fry are best moved to a special little tank set up (& cycled) but if this isnt an option for you leaving it in the breeding net will be ok until its a bit bigger & more likely to survive in a big tank with all the hungry mouths it contains. make sure you feed the baby often (crushed/powdered flake is fine if you dont have special fry food) at least 3-4 times a day (teeny pinch of food)& they also need some cover/shade from bright lights up the top of the tank which it sounds like you already have.

good luck with the little one & keep us updated
ps: posting in capitals on most forums is considered bad manners as using capital letters usually indicates that you are SHOUTING and im sure you dont mean to do that

mum has now died unfortunately ,looks like she was attacked as one side of her was distended and her scales were sticking out .this happened yesterday ,I noticed she wasn't moving much ,caught her in a net which was way too easy and when I looked her over saw the damage to her side ,she didn't last more than two hours after that  ..litle guy is in breeding net on his own ,feeding liquidfry several time a day ,plants in net for shade ,seems to be growing well .I'm devastated for the mum though as she was a young fish .

Sorry for your loss. :rip:

Sounds like she had dropsy. If her scales were sticking out like pine cones, then she had dropsy. :(

In my experience, i have never had any fish recover from dropsy, despite medicating the tank.

Good luck with your fry solitary fry! :D
