I currently have a 10 gal tank, which I have my community in. I was thinking of looking into getting a 20 gal, so my 10 gal would be empty. Could I possibly make it into an all female beta tank?
Suggestions?

Yes that would work fine. You should have no less than 4 girls to help spread any possible agression, I would go for 5 in a 10 gallon.

I have a 12 gallon with 4 girls, 8 pygmy cories, an apple snail and a single Endler. It's got a Fluval 3 running it so it is slightly overfiltered ( and the pygmies like the flow , the girls do fine with it too ) It works very well. ( bottom right picture in my sig, the tank on the left )

Good luck with setting it up :good:

I have a 75 litre hex (approx 20 us gallons)
I have 9 girls in there , 4 ritculated , 5 skunk and 4 albino corys , with shrimps and some baby apple snails

i think 5 -6 girls in a 10 would be fine :)

5 or 6? Yay! Should I put anything else in there (e.g. bottom feeders) or would it get injured?
My friend has an antisocial bottom feeder who needs his own tank with only one companion fish.
(she doesn't know what kind- it was given to her by a friend.)
I could also put in snails, would that work or does it depend?

It just makes me mad, the way betas are kept in pet stores. They have a little, tiny (not even 1/2 gal!) plastic tub, no heat or filtration. :< :grr:
Some are actually doing OK in these conditions, but I know tey could be doing much better.

If you want bottom feeders in there then around 6-8 Pygmy cories are the best bet. Normal sized cories will be too big. 4 Khulie loaches might work but you would have to have a sand substrate instead of gravel as they do like to bury. Shrimp would also be fine, as will snails. Nerite snails are quite pretty.

if you dont want pygmy corys them a couple of pitbull plecs would be ok in there they reach just over 2" when fully grown , you cant have just one of them as they like to be atv least 2

The 3 sorts of small corys are
pygmaeus , habrosus and hastatus - your lfs should be able to order any of these for you

So if I had 6-8 pygmy cories, how many females would I be able to have in the tank?
Also, should I put the cories in before the betas?

Around 8 will be fine for pygmies in a 10 gallon.

Since you currently have fish in there and have for a while, your filter is cycled, so in order to keep it that way, on the day you switch your fish to the 20 gallon, you should do a 50% water change in the 10 gallon and add the cories the same day.

Then add the bettas a week later and do a 25% water change around 3-4 days after that. Don't forget to test the water with a test kit too, just to keep an eye on things.
