I've got nine fry from my female guppy. All nine are female. Those fry were big enough after 6 weeks to let loose in the big tank. Guppies grow FAST!

I love my mollies. I had two males and 5 females. The males were like a tag team with my females. One of the males died and now the other does not seem interested in the females. I figured that would be fine as I was able to save 10 fry from the hungry mommies. (I was amazed watching my silver balloon molly eat one baby in the middle of dropping another.) Now that the fry are bigger, its evident they are ALL female. What are the odds???

We found two fry hiding in the plants and put them in the baby tank. They are both female as well and their coloring has finally come in to show they are platys.

So to talley up.... :fish:
3 male guppies and 9 female babies.
1 male molly, 5 female and 7 female fry
3 adult female platys and 2 female fry.

With all the females I would be worried about population explosion, but as there are few males. I'm not worried. I'm just wondering why none of fry are males??? Is it a temperature thing or just a really weird coincidence?

Usaully female's survive more, as they are hardier. Also, some fish such as Kribensis fish change sex from the ph change. If it is 7.0 or below, most krib fry are female, anything above 7.0 and most are male. It could be the same with guppies. Either that, or your's arent mature yet!

How old are they? I have four and five month old fry that are still no males but I rescued the entire drop so I'm sure they're not all female.

Hmm...The platys, guppies, and two of the mollies are about two months old. The rest of the mollies only a week old. I guess it is possible that the mollies may not be mature. I sure hope so.

The guppies and platys REALLY appear to be female. Some of the guppies are nearly as big as their mommy and they have the shorter female shaped tail rather than fan tails. As for the platys, they have black triangle anal fins. I can't imagine that will change after two months, but this is the first tank I've ever had any luck with breeding at all.

i found a baby platy in one of my tanks and i was only able to sex it at 3 months old

My guppy frye are three months old now and of the nine, 3 are male. I was so sure they were all going to be female because of their tail shape and coloring, but there are definitely 3 males. They do not have the solid colors I had expected. In the pet stores all the males are solid colors and/or there is no silver. The females are generally silver around the head and the tails have some color.

Maybe the colors will change as they get older? I have never bred guppies before so perhaps to get solid colors you have to be selective with the breeding? I dunno.

Most of my male guppies tend to get thier colouring after about 8-10 weeks but it can take longer..

One day you will see a bit of color and all of a sudden few days after, he will have loads more as if hes just blossomed overnight lol.. just be patient, all fish are individually diffrent and can take longer than others :)

Best way to know if its female on guppies, is normally after 4-8 weeks, she will develop a gravid spot, its very dark normally on your females so not hard to spot.. i must say though, some guppies like all livebearers can be females and show no dark gravid spot even when pregnant, sometimes they can be very light :)

good luck :)
